Between Folds / Design Journal
The unfolded pages of the monthly design journal The Art-Workman explore the tangling of inspiration behind nineteenth-century interiors. Elaborate pattern is repeated across plaster, paper, metal and porcelain, morphing in and out of different materials, seamlessly shaping to the designer’s will. Sculpted plaster hardens to the flat face of printed wallpaper, flourishing metalwork swells to the rounded flick of a jug handle. With use and scale disguised, each design flows effortlessly into the other in a celebration of style. The text forms a forward slash, symbolic of the ease of equivalence and the ever-evolving push of design to embellish and make anew.
